Wieger BAKKER

Wieger Bakker is a sociologist by training and working in the domain of Governance studies. He is full professor at the Utrecht University School of Governance for the faculty of Law, Economics and Governance (LEG). He holds a chair in Society Oriented Higher Education. Earlier he was director of studies of the Utrecht School of Governance bachelor program; coordinator of a master program on public policy and public administration; and coordinator of a double degree master program European governance.

Since December 2018 he is dean Lifelong Learning for Utrecht University. In this position he works with a dedicated team on developing university continuing education (UCE). The ambition of this program is to facilitate and stimulate UCE-activities in which research and expertise relate to societal and professional needs (see professionals.uu.nl and see intranet.uu.nl/onderwijs-voor-professionals).

In 2020 he was, next to his work at Utrecht University, appointed extraordinary Professor Governance, Community and Cohesion at the Faculty of Arts and Sciences of the University of Aruba (www.ua.aw). In 2022 he was elected for a second term as deputy director general of the Inter University Centre Dubrovnik, Croatia (www.iuc.hr).
